OK, just checking back to let you know that since I was on TV here in May about my 100-pound weight loss I have lost an additional 18 pounds still using the cookies. I have added some additional calories from when I was on the diet, but am able to maintain my goal weight by using the cookies for my breakfast and lunch. Also, my heart doctor took me off my cholesterol meds as my bad cholesterol dropped from 220 to 139. He reduced my a-fib medicine strength because my heart rate has dropped into the 50s (with exercise). My waist is now a 36 (down from a 48-50). Thanks again Dr. Siegal for a plan that really worked for me.

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: What wonderful news, Jim! I'm so glad that you're experiencing the improvements in health that so frequently follow signficant weight loss. I couldn't be happier for you!

I tried Medifast for awhile and lost 20 pounds, but I could no longer stand the taste of the soups, etc. Retch! But I've lost 15 on these cookies and I love the simplicity and effectiveness. I just ordered more. I'm very, very happy with this diet.
Jan, Gardner, KS, United States, January 12 2012

I've been on the diet 10 weeks now, and have lost 22.4 pounds. So I'm doing very well, I think. I'm very happy with my results, and plan to stay the course! My weight loss has finally evened out to about 2 pounds per week, which is very acceptable. And on those weeks where it kicks up to 3 or 3.5 lbs, so much the better! Thank you again, Dr. Siegal!
Julie, Plattsburg, MO, United States, November 07 2011

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: You're welcome, Julie. Your expectations are realistic and that's an important element in successful weight loss. Keep us posted!

I have been on the cookie diet since Thursday, September 22, 2011. My starting weight was 264.2. Yesterday was hard because it was my day off and I ate more, however what I ate was healthy and I kept up with my calories and I ended up with 1550 calories. This morning I stepped on the scales and weighed 258.4. The workdays are so much easier to not think about eating anything other than the cookies because I stay busy. Once your mindset is on what you need to do or should I say NOT EAT, it's easier to fight through those hunger pangs. I take weight loss one day at a time, and today I am on task. Will keep you posted on my progress and thank you Dr. Siegal for an easy program to follow.
Denise, Memphis, AR, United States, September 26 2011

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: I had to smile when I read your post, Denise. You discovered, and expressed well, something I discovered decades ago after treating thousands of patients: that it's a lot easier to restrict your calories during the day when you're at work or otherwise busy. On Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet, I encourage people to use the cookies to control hunger during the day and save their "real meal" for dinner when hunger is likely to be greatest. That approach has worked well for generations of my patients and I'm delighted that it's working for you.

I just finished my first month, and finished up with a loss of 10.6 pounds, which is very satifying. However, I do have a question. My first week was 6.4 pounds, which I understand was unusual. My second week was only .4 pounds, which I didn't understand. My third week was my better at 4.4 pounds, and this last week, I actually gained .6 pounds! Which was a little frustrating. Especially frustrating because I've been very careful to follow the 1000-1200 diet plan very carefully. What do you suppose the reason is for the up and down weight loss week by week? Not that I'm giving up, by any means. I would appreciate some advice, though. Thanks, Julie.
Julie, Plattsburg, MO, United States, September 24 2011

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: Your question is one of the most common ones I've heard from my patients over the years, Julie. My answer is always the same: don't weigh yourself so frequently! Ideally, I'd like to see people weigh themselves once a month but I doubt anyone would follow such advice. From day-to-day, everyone's weight fluctuates based on many factors including the amount of undigested food they're carrying around, water retention, and the clothes they are wearing (if not nude). Also, women in particular experience significant weight fluctuations at certain times of the month.

The bottom line is that you've lost over 10 pounds in a month. Fantastic!

I reached my goal in august of 2010 and I am still at my goal weight. I still enjoy the cookies for breakfast and if I travel they are always with me. I exersize 5 to 6 days a week, and have never felt better. My total weight loss was 60 lbs.
Claire, Lebanon, PA, United States, September 18 2011

It has been 12 days and I have lost 7 lbs. I am very happy! I must thank you for your cookbook. I love the layout and the recipies. My family has also enjoyed EVERY meal I have prepared from your book. I can make the whole family one meal and I can stay on MY plan at the same time...wonderful! I do hope you are planning another cookbook with same layout.
Mary, Simi Valley, CA, United States, September 11 2011

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: Creating The Cookie Doctor Cookbook was truly a labor of love. By allowing people to follow the diet plan while enjoying the same dinner as the rest of the family, my goal with the cookbook was to give the dieter as much emotional support as possible. I'm so happy to hear that it's working for you exactly as I intended.

Well, I just recently completed my first week, and I lost a whopping 6.4 pounds! Woo hoo!! I'm really excited and plan to stay motivated. Thank you so much, Dr. Siegal!
Julie, Plattsburg, MO, United States, September 06 2011

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: You're off to a great start, Julie. It's quite common to see unusually fast results at the start of a diet. Soon, your progress will adjust to a rate of about 10 to 15 lbs. per month which is about the maximum rate at which one can burn fat. Keep us informed of your progress!

I have been on the cookie diet since 8/22. I have only lost 6 lbs. To me that seems slow. I have 55 lbs to lose at this rate it will take forever. Is this normal Dr. Siegal?
Jessica, Lake Charles, LA, United States, September 03 2011

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: Six pounds in ten days seems slow? It's actually terrific, Jessica. The maximum amount of fat that one can burn off is 3 to 4 pounds per week and you are at the top of that range.

A key to weight-loss success is having realistic goals. You're doing great, Jessica. Keep going!

Several years ago I tried the cookie diet, became pregnant and then breastfed for a year and now that is done I have packed on the pounds: 10-15 lbs for each of my 4 kids, which really add up. I was already over weight and have recently developed high blood pressure and am medicated for it, but the doctor assures me I could come off the BP meds if I lost weight. Also, creeping up on 40 and realize that weight loss will not be easy, so a week ago I began your cookie diet and am happy to post that I have a 9 lb weight loss in the first week. I'm thrilled, it truly works if followed correctly. I like the fact that I am re-learning how to eat healthy and portion control as well as teaching my family. Thank you Dr. Siegal. Will try to post pics of progress and keep an update, maybe monthly as my first weight loss goal is 50 lbs, with a total of 130 lbs to lose.
Amy, Camp Wood, TX, United States, August 03 2011

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: I'm delighted with your enthusiasm, Amy, and encourage you to keep going for you are guaranteed to reach your goal if you stick to 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day. However, I want you to have realistic expectations. It's not uncommon to see weight (not fat) drop significantly at the start of a diet. Of the 9 pounds you lost in a week, no more than 3 to 5 lbs was fat. The maximum rate at which you can burn fat is about 15 lbs per month. That's still quite fast, of course, so don't be discouraged if soon your rate of loss slows to that pace.

After years of unsuccessful attempts at dieting and after 1.5 years of discovering the cookie diet plan -- I finally "bit" the cookie and tried it myself. I started this journey on 6/20. I have lost weight (almost 10 pounds!), I have lost inches. People are beginning to notice it. What I have gained? The ability to make good choices for eating my one meal. Knowing that I can eat out for that meal and make good choices. Clothes fit better. I FEEL better!! And I'm gaining my self respect back. THANK you... I have just ordered my 2nd month's supply. THANK you from the bottom of my heart. I did not want to have weight loss surgery. These cookies were my last chance. For those of you reading this and if you were like me that had doubts... don't doubt it anymore.
Christina , Philadelphia, PA, United States, July 07 2011

DR. SIEGAL REPLIES: Great posting, Christina! You express yourself very well. You were wise to avoid bariatric surgery. Except in some extreme cases of morbid obesity, I do not encourage weight-loss surgery. As you've discovered, safe, quick weight loss is guaranteed when you follow a diet of 1,000 to 1,200 calories. The benefits you've described will only get better as you get closer to your goal.
